Drop in Ebola cases ‘signals turning point’

Sierra Leone sees biggest fall in Ebola cases but experts warn outbreaks can flare up as quickly as they die down

The Ebola epidemic seems to have reached a turning point, with cases falling in all three of the worst-hit countries of west Africa, according to World Health Organisation figures.

Last week there were fewer than 150 cases reported. Sierra Leone accounts for most of them – 117 of the total. At the peak in December, the country was reporting 550 cases a week. Last week it reported 184 cases and the week before 248.
